Annual verification sounds disciplined until you consider what can change in twelve months.
A Ledger firmware update in March may require a passphrase re-entry you have not practised since installation. A backup card stored in a humid bathroom drawer may develop ink bleed by September. A co-signer who moved to Busan may no longer be reachable when you need a multi-sig approval.
Quarterly checks do not mean quarterly anxiety. They mean four short, witnessed sessions where you confirm the unlock sequence still works, update your binder, and stamp the next date before you leave the office.
Clients who switch from annual to quarterly report two consistent benefits: they remember their passphrase order more reliably, and they catch backup degradation while a fresh engraving or re-print is still straightforward.
If your last verified date is more than six months ago, treat the next available slot as overdue rather than optional.
